If the avocado is often associated with tropical climates, did you know that this fruit finds an ideal environment in Corsica? Thanks to its unique climate, Corsica allows the cultivation of organic avocado trees, without overconsumption of water. At Domaines de la Taste, we take up the challenge of producing 100% organic French avocados. In this article, we will explain why this idea came to us and the benefits for the environment.

The Mediterranean climate, perfect for avocados:

The avocado tree is a plant that thrives in mild, bright climates with moderate temperatures, all characteristic of the Corsican climate. Unlike other regions where its cultivation requires massive irrigation systems, in Corsica, seasonal rainfall and natural soil moisture help meet its needs. This allows us to limit our use in artificial irrigation, compared to certain massive export areas.

The Corsican organic avocado: a sustainable commitment

Since 2016, we have chosen to diversify our crops by introducing the avocado tree to the Domaines de la Taste. Why this choice? Because we believe in responsible agriculture, which adapts to its environment. Contrary to popular belief, the avocado grown in Corsica does not require more water than other local products and consumes much less water than some plant and animal productions.

Controlled irrigation: connected technologies to optimize water

To ensure even more precise and measured water management, we have implemented a drip irrigation system in each of our plots. This system allows us to deliver exactly the amount of water the trees need, directly to their roots, reducing waste to a minimum.

But we go further. In our 110 hectares of crops, we have installed no less than 80 connected probes. These measure soil moisture in real time, allowing irrigation to be continuously adjusted to the actual needs of the plants. By closely monitoring these readings, we ensure that each avocado tree receives the right amount of water necessary for its proper development, without excess.

Reducing the carbon footprint: a real plus for the environment

One of the great advantages of producing avocados on French soil is the significant reduction in the carbon footprint. Indeed, the majority of avocados consumed in Europe are imported from distant countries such as Mexico and Peru. By producing avocados directly in Corsica, we reduce transport distances and therefore pollutant emissions. In addition, our agricultural practices, based on organic production and environmentally friendly methods, further minimize our ecological impact.

By buying an organic avocado grown in Corsica, you are choosing an exceptional product, more respectful of the planet, with a low carbon footprint, while supporting local and sustainable agriculture.

The Corsican avocado is much more than just an imported fruit. Today for the Taste estates, it is a local, organic product, and respectful of the resources of our island. By choosing our organic avocados, you support sustainable and local agriculture that chooses to respect nature while bringing healthy and tasty products to your plate.
